Liquid-to-liquid hydrogen refueling stations

Rapid, modular, and safe liquid hydrogen (LH2) refueling solutions. Engineered specifically for heavy-duty mobility, marine vessels, and pioneering zero-emission aviation.

Pioneering liquid hydrogen mobility

To meet the energy demands of next-generation heavy-duty vehicles, liquid hydrogen storage and dispensing is evolving. Our subcooled hydrogen (sLH₂) refueling stations are engineered to dispense liquid or subcooled hydrogen directly into cryogenic vehicle tanks.

Additionally, as the maritime and aviation sectors are on the rise, direct liquid hydrogen (LH2) refueling is becoming essential. Our liquid-to-liquid refueling station provides a vital interface between the LH2 supply (such as trailers or ISO containers) and the vehicle's onboard tank. These semi-mobile units offer a rapid, modular, and highly safe solution designed specifically to support initial demonstrations and qualification campaigns for next-generation LH2-powered mobility.

Subcooled liquid hydrogen refueling station

For liquid hydrogen trucks

Part of the liquid-to-liquid series, the sLH2 modular station is dedicated to liquid tanks to ensure higher storage density and faster refueling. Our technology enables up to four parallel trains to refuel an 80 kg vehicle tank in just 15 min, in full compliance with standard refueling protocol.

Additionally a combination of subcooled liquid hydrogen stations & Direct filling liquid-to-gas 700 bar stations (see our liquid-to-gas refueling hydrogen station) is also customizable, offering a versatile solution for multi-purpose applications.

Liquid-to-liquid hydrogen station

Our liquid-to-liquid hydrogen refueling station offers a rapid, modular, and safe solution designed specifically for initial demonstrations and qualification campaigns of LH₂-powered mobility vehicles.

This semi-mobile unit acts as a direct interface between the supply (trailer or ISO container) and the client's tank. It is manually operated, empowering engineers to dynamically fine-tune key process parameters—such as driving pressure (up to 10 barg), mass flow (up to 10 kg/min), tank pressure, and fuel temperature—to match exact testing requirements on the fly.

Strict compliance & uncompromising safety

Handling liquid hydrogen at -253°C requires absolute adherence to the highest international safety standards. Air Liquide's liquid-to-liquid stations are fully certified to meet rigorous European directives.

The design strictly complies with the ATEX directive (2013/34/UE) for explosive atmospheres and the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/UE). Furthermore, it meets Low Voltage (2014/35/UE), Electromagnetic Compatibility (CEM 2014/30/UE), and Machine (2006/42/EC) directives. This robust certification profile ensures that your qualification campaigns are conducted with maximum safety and regulatory peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

What vehicles are compatible with this station?

This system is specifically designed for high-capacity applications that utilize direct liquid hydrogen (LH2) storage onboard. This primarily includes next-generation heavy-duty trucks, maritime ships, and zero-emission aircraft.

How does the semi-mobile unit work?

The unit acts as a highly controlled transfer interface. It connects to a bulk supply source—such as an LH2 trailer or ISO container—and safely manages the transfer, line conditioning, and inerting required to pump the liquid directly into the client’s onboard vehicle tank.
